Welcome to The Canvey Island Website.
Canvey Island really is a true island in the River Thames estuary in the county of Essex. With an ever increasing population of around 45,000 people, the Island is still as popular as it ever was.
The Anglo Saxon word "Canvey" literally means "Cana's Island". First recorded in 1255 as Caneveye. Many things have happened to the Island over the years including flooding but with modern day sea defenses the likelyness of flooding happening again is fairly remote.
The purpose of this site is to bring information and Islanders together. We're hoping to add forums to the site in the very near future - So keep checking back!
